Carried by the Current – Jadan limestone, Delamore Arts 2016
My personal work and passion is stone carving. Using Cornish and Dorset stones I create fluid forms which invite tactile journeys. Although not directly figurative, the pieces explore varied moods and qualities: poise, protection, expectancy, inspiration, dialogue and expansion.
The sculptures aim to be housed in dwellings and landscapes where they can stand with quiet presence and dignity, addressing the contemplative nature of the viewer.
In 1998 I began working at the Clay Door Studio in Chudleigh near Exeter, making sculptures in stone and other media for sale and commission.
I like to think of the studio as an open door, offering classes to adults and children of all level of experience and skill to come and explore their own creative potential; working with those with learning disabilities has been a consistent thread throughout my life. I have exhibited in local galleries and sculpture parks and have a variety of work on display at the studio.
