I am a sculptor and artist living and working in the rural South Hams in South Devon. I first studied ceramics at university in 1970’s in Ca.,USA and offered expressive ceramic groups in community based settings. In 1984 I qualified and practiced as an art therapist in the UK NHS working with young people and their families. From 2003 I developed a freelance practice in charitable, local authority and independent sectors. While I have always painted and drawn the figure I moved into the study of figurative sculpture with professional sculptors using clay in the early 2000’s.
I love working in clay is an as it is a wonderfully soft substance which is immediately responsive to touch: soothing, resilient, recyclable, and extremely versatile while ultimately strong and permanent when fired or cast. These transformational qualities stimulate and engage my imagination.
I am inspired by the physical, sensual, emotional and relational experiences of the human life cycle and reflecting upon the wider human experience through psychological and classical sources.
Casted figures are available in antique bronze, verdigris or white marble resins and can reside- with some protection from extreme weather – outside as well as in interior spaces and on a commission basis in bronze.
I welcome commissions please contact me to discuss.
