Some of my work is based on the human condition , my themes are inspired by parenthood ,family also male and female relationships. More recently I have explored how musicians express themselves through their chosen instrument thus challenging me to create more hard edged man made forms within the carving, my aim is to infuse the sculpture with expression and meaning. My ideas are carved in local stones; Polyphant, Portland, Bath, Beer and more recently alabaster and marble. Scale varies from small indoor table top pieces to site specific outdoor sculptures. I also work directly in stone these sculptures lean more towards organic abstract forms and are often inspired by natural form ie seed pods and buds these works are often commenced without preconceived ideas and developed with the natural shape of the rock.
I am available for commissions and can work collaboratively with clients and run informal classes in sculpture from my Buckfastleigh studio.
Anne-Marie studied at the Frink school of figurative sculpture. On completion of her studies in 1994 she spent six months in an artists colony in Lancashire before moving to Devon where she now lives with her husband and two children. Anne-Marie has experimented with a range of styles and mediums but has now settled to carving stone and on occasion wood. Her pieces alternate from organic abstract forms sometimes inspired by nature or the human spirit contrasting with abstracted figurative work. The more abstract work gives AM the oppertunity to explore a freer way of working and is often undertaken with no preconceived idea. The two styles, although very different do compliment each other and one way of working feeds the other. Many of the pieces celebrate humanity each one corresponding to stages in the lifes cycle. Anne’s favored themes are, fertility, parenthood, relationships within the family unit, loss and grief. Work is exhibited nationally and many pieces have gone to collectors abroad Anne-marie also works to commision. She runs informal sculpture workshops from her studio in Buckfastleigh.
