I am a self-taught direct free carver in stone, working by hand and without a preconceived image or concept. This forms my general carving practice, without drawings or maquettes, in which creative decision-making is continuous, and with stone irreversible, rather than that split between design and making. The piece establishes its form and content only through the process of working. My recent work is extending into a form of surreal carving; a working discipline focusing on the mind's image with no forward or backward relationship, apart from the immediate, in the progress of the work.
