Appreciation of the natural world has always been my inspiration, what makes me tick. My early training was in metal work but I now work with wood as the medium of choice. I value wood’s warmth and intrinsic beauty. I try to replicate nature’s flowing lines in my work, drawing out and seeking to enhance the intrinsic qualities of the wood. All of my wood is sourced locally and is usually the casualty of storms, woodland management and hedging activities. I tend to be involved in the whole process from the felling of the tree to the finished piece. My favourite woods are Yew for its beautiful rich colour and mystical properties and spalted wood for its unexpected and amazing patterns.
