I have been carving stone for 28 years and teaching stone carving and stone sculpture for 17 years. From an early age , I decided to be an artist and went through art training to degree level where I specialised in sculpture and fine art. I loved stone as a material while at university and when I finished I continued on to train as a stone carver at Weymouth Collage which covered letter cutting architectural carving and masonry skills. I had the privilege to be taught by the stone masons and professional tutors in the field.
I later trained as a tutor to teach adults my skills in stone carving. I worked for 16 years for Devon Adult Learning as a stone carving tutor and many other tutoring short term roles to enhance my teaching abilities. I now run from my teaching studio in Dartington Hall Estate; a stone carving course programme called Sculptworks.
I work on my own ideas and sculpture from my studio developing themes related to the human condition and life cycles. I am also interested in folklore, myths and legends. I develop my sculpture to tell a story which is why my work is often in sequences.
I have experience of exhibiting my sculpture since 1992 from London to the South West. This has taught me the important skills of selling and presenting my work to the public.
