Derek Cadle developed a second career as a sculptor following retirement in 1997 from a hectic career as a hospital consultant. He had spent 30 years closely involved in the development of Intensive Care Medicine in the UK and is a Distinguished Member of the Intensive Care Society.
With such a background it is perhaps not surprising that his sculptural work is both detailed and figurative being human, animal and botanical.
Sculptures are in bronze cast from clay, woodcarvings, wire pieces and mixed media. His work is quite varied and sometimes presented as pairs.
Examples are spread nationally and internationally with work in Monaco, Hong Kong and the USA.
